Shannon Earley:

Hello friends, welcome to Nesting With The Earley Birds. This is your hostess Shannon Earley. And I hope you enjoy what we have coming next. It is my introduction to the family boutique, which is owned and operated by the hill family, husband and wife team, Ashley and Adam Hill. They're one of the top salespeople in the country for Luluroe, but they happen to be a boutique that is willing to sell whatever they think is great, And great quality, all of that jazz. They have thousands of super loyal, dedicated customers.

Unknown:

Hello, friends. This is Shannon Earley, the hostess of the Nesting with the Earley Birds podcast. And today I'm so excited. First of all, I get to meet with a super awesome lady and her super awesome husband. But secondly, you're going to be able to learn what makes their marriage work. So well. Maybe, maybe why they are such a good business partner with each other. And also just some spend some time with us. Alright, so I'm gonna go on the other side now and get ready. That should be super fun. And let me introduce to you please. We have Mr. Adam and Mrs. Ashley hill with the hill family boutique. Hello, hello. Hello. Oh, yes. So guys, I hit on really quickly, that you have the hill family boutique. Can you just share a little bit about that?

Ashley Hill:

Yeah, so we have a family business that we started about four years ago, that was just kind of a little side gig for me to have some fun with girls and playing clothes, because I have lots of boys. And we got Adam and our three boys who are on the trampoline over there. But I wanted something else. I'm a nurse practitioner and it was a very serious job, but I loved and I love my patients and I love my doctors and everybody, but I needed some something lighter to enjoy. So that's why I started it. And then it just grew and it grew. And it grew me so much fun. that eventually I decided to do it full time and left my physician hospital and stayed home. And Adam has been there every step of the way. Helping me.

Shannon Earley:

That's so crazy. Adam, how did you feel when Ashley was like, babe, I'm gonna quit my job that I went to college for?

Adam Hill:

You know, it was definitely an adjustment and a thought process that we had to go through. Just trying to make sure we could make it work from a financial standpoint. But by that point, she had been involved in the business for a while and we sort of knew what the ins and outs of it were. And she had obviously demonstrated that she could be successful doing it. So, you know, once she decided that that was the avenue that she wanted to take it was pretty easy conversation. Once we figured out the numbers were going to work and we'd be fine. And we're ready to do it. And really happy. Good move. And I'm glad we did.

Shannon Earley:

Excellent. So let me ask you this. What do you think and this is going to need to ask me first. What do you think makes Adam a good business partner for you?

Ashley Hill:

and financially he straight though he tells me when I need to lower down with investing in the business, but just keeping the numbers straight for me, but he also listens to my ideas and gives feedback without I guess suppressing my flame. Oh, that's nice. So you're good flame encouraged or

Adam Hill:

That's right

Shannon Earley:

, but not blazer? That's right, you limit? Yeah, the flame? Ain't nobody got time for burning things I don't even know.

Unknown:

I'm Adam, what do you think makes Ashley a good business partner for you?

Adam Hill:

So you know, Ashley is one of those people that always has an internal checklist like she she's the organizer of our household. But that works extremely well for the business as well. She's got an ability that I wish I had just sort of keep everything straight, knows what needs to be done all the time and is great at directing, you know the business that way. And for me, well for me, it makes it relatively simple because if I can show up and chip in in any way, you know, she can worry about all the direction and sort of kind of the organizing and all that and I can just sort of show up and help out so she's she's just got that unique ability. Like I said I wish I had it I don't but when make a good team

Shannon Earley:

that is so sweet. You guys do you feel like you are loved For each other, have you seen each other in a new light? That's major love for each other evolve differently? Or? So?

Ashley Hill:

Yeah, I mean, he's always been supportive of my weird wild ideas, some successful and some not. But definitely the fact that he shows up every day, even socially, there's hard days in business, there's hard days, there's days where, you know, you work all the time, and you go, this is worth it, like, What do I do? And then there's those rewarding days that are amazing. And that's just the ups and downs of owning your own small business. But he's there to support encouraged me, especially when anxiety gets in the way of thinking of what if this, what if that he brings me back to reality and grounds me that, you know, it's all good, like, this is what I wanted to do. And what has allowed was, it was important things allowed me to be home with my kids. Because I think that's I didn't say, that's why we did this. But ultimately, that was, because I will practice again. And because I miss patients, and I miss medicine and miss everything about it. I volunteer now to keep up with my skills and really enjoy that. But what I don't I didn't want to miss this season of my life. So now I can, I can be there. And so it's To summarize, it almost sounds like you've always known Adams been a supporter.

Shannon Earley:

But to see you him support you in a way that is just completely steadfast and long suffering and also long reaching. It's just it yeah, it completely strengthens your respect for him in a way because you see how much he's loving you.

Ashley Hill:

Right? And that is not generally a risk taker. Like, just in general. He's just stay where it's a kind of thing. And so this was a big risk for us. What it what would happen if it did fail? Like I would just practice again, and that's okay. You know, like, that's, it's not what I wanted in this season of my life. But the fact that he supported me with that big wild idea that I had, and it was like, well, the numbers work. Can you deal with this? Yeah.

Shannon Earley:

What did you think Adam went? Well, I guess first, I'm Adam, how has your view have actually changed all your love for her changed? Would you say?

Adam Hill:

Well, it's, you know, I don't know that it's necessarily changed, but maybe reinforce some of the thoughts that we had. You know, he sort of, we work separately for a long time, both of us out of the home, she was a nurse practitioner is a nurse practitioner, and I work at a bank. And so we sort of go our separate ways, you know, to go to work, and then you tell each other stories when you come home and that kind of thing, but you don't necessarily see how somebody is in a work setting. It's just been really fun to be able to see her own a business, run a business drive a business, you know, in front of me in the house. And of course now. I mean, I'm still doing my job with the bank. Oh, I love it, doing it in my office, in our bedroom. I love it. So we get to see each other work all the time.

Shannon Earley:

And you guys were besties before you were married, right?

Ashley Hill:

Yeah.

Shannon Earley:

Do you think being best friends helps y'all business? Not only grow, but do you think it helps your business savvy, like just knowing each other that way?

Ashley Hill:

Definitely. I mean, I think part of our business too, is the reason what I think the reason people, they could shop with anybody, right with any boutique that they use us because they want to support our family. And for that we're like, super grateful. So like our customers in our community are so important. They are like family to us. And so they get to see our interaction. And I think that's what makes us like our sisters when we go live together. And we have a lot of fun. And we're silly. Yeah. laugh a lot. Yes. So with Yes, yes. Like, I think that's a really important. Yes. And because I take things really seriously sometimes, because I overthink things like I'm just an over thinker. And so having him to be able to balance that out and make it fun. Yes. For me, yes, into my brain.

Shannon Earley:

And I will say that sorry. So when Ashley was talking about how she looks at our clients, as family or her customers as family, I don't even know how many people it's like in the thousands, right? Okay. She'll respond to every message. Like I don't know how she does it. She's a robot person. And it will be something personalized. And it's not even just oh, that doesn't look great on you. She'll say something like, oh, and how's your daughter, Madeline, or whatever. And, you know, one time Ashley had to go up to Haiti, actually on a mission trip. And I think Adam, she has this thing called like girls night in, and I think was the first time Adam posted and it was just so funny, because it was still called girls night in or something like, do you remember anything like that? Were you scared the first time you have Oh, it's the first time?

Adam Hill:

Yeah, I mean, the first time that we were running the business and she went to Haiti several times since then. It was definitely you know, a nerve wracking thing because like I said, She's the organizer. She knows everything and we were able to communicate a little bit but not like every time I had But I think it's done pretty well. And, you know, it's been fun being part of the business and sort of having like my role to play cuz I'm sort of like the, you know, the goofy husband side kicked a little bit chance to do more of that for, you know, a week at a time. It's been fun. It's been a good learning experience, and it gives me a chance to learn things that I don't normally do. And that way I can hopefully chip in more when she is here. But yeah, it's, it's been fun.

Shannon Earley:

So talk a little bit about Haiti, why is it something that your family and we're going to talk we actually have a whole episode scheduled? I think in January or so about this? May February. Talk a little bit about why would you go to Haiti? Was it solely for medical missions? Was it to see the country side? And Adam, why did you choose to support that by taking care of that family while she was gone?

Ashley Hill:

So he is such an important place for me, I've been going, I don't know, like, seven, eight years now. I don't know. Um, it's because Foster was one of my last like, recent mission trips when I was pregnant with him and went, but I don't know if it like seven or eight. Anyway, I love it. So Haiti, we have a team at our church that goes through, and we do a medical clinic there. And initially, it was about medicine. And to me, feeling like I, you know, was having young kids and I really felt like I wanted to help in some way. And, and so we decided for me to go just to try it out, not knowing that I've never been to Haiti, I've never been on a medical mission trip before. Yeah, so it was super exciting to go and it changed my heart, it changed my my perspective that changed so much that not only are sure we're going there, and we're helping people and we are giving them basic medical care that otherwise they could die if we weren't there just from having simple medicines like antibiotics that we take for granted here. But when I realized that they changed meaning because definitely so much stronger

Unknown:

than I can even I try to have my theme, and what they're dealing with. And so, but why I establish relationships and friends there. So our interpreters like we, they are like friends and family does, we say in contact, and when I go back, it's like a reunion every year. And so for me, it's just a part of who I am and the relationships and sure we're helping them but what they really are, they're healing me in a way. And that is something I'm super grateful for. And I love it. I love it. So and I'm grateful that Adam is knows that every March unless there's political unrest, and that we go sometimes at a different time, right. And most every March, we he knows that I'll be doing and he takes full rein of everything's in the household and the kids, which I'm super grateful for.

Shannon Earley:

And Adam, do you feel like? It's because of the rejuvenation in the Holy Spirit and Ashley's that encourages you to want to keep you know, helping? or Why? What do you feel like, because you're part taking care of the kids is like, a huge sacrifice. That's one of the things Evan and I talked about is he feels like his role and helping us be missionaries, or whatever it is, is by taking that back work on, which is a really big deal. Why Why do you choose to keep doing that?

Unknown:

Well, I think, you know, one, we're part of a very mission oriented church, that's, you know, the first time doing it was one of those things that you hear about people going on missions, they come back, tell their stories, and you feel like you should be a part of it. And, you know, that kind of goes back to that risk taker or non risk taker comment actually made earlier. And it's one of those things I felt like I should do, but was never ready to jump in and do it. And so when she said it was something she wanted to do, I was glad that our family was able to be part of that, while I wasn't going to be going, we were able to contribute to our church. And that way, I still remember and I always laugh, that the dynamic of me helping, I didn't really seem like a big deal to me. I mean, we would certainly Miss Ashley for the week, because she was there and be thinking about her a lot. But, you know, we were both working parents. So there was opportunities, you know, all the way up through their childhood for us to have to independently do things with the kids. Good. And I think that's more of a new age kind of thing. Because I'll still remember, you know, in the weeks leading up to it, we would go to church, and I have more people approached me to say they were praying for me that I know, that would approach Ashley and I'm like, I'm gonna be hanging in my house, she's gonna be in another country, taking care of some sick people. And it didn't really seem like that big of a deal. Now, I mean, you know, your family has a dynamic and part of that gets taken out and it just works a little bit differently. But, you know, we were able to be, you know, just fine. And I feel like that was important, sort of, like you were saying, you know, to play that role so that she could do something like that. And that's part of what works with the business too, is You know, I'm not always there hands on with the business. But if I'm not doing that, then you know, I'm cooking dinner, I'm making sure the kids are taken care of. And so, you know, we just function well that way. And so absolutely having her go the first time is important thing. And then when she came back, I mean, she was very different and had changed. And then

Shannon Earley:

it's infectious. Right to you, it probably really encourages you in a way like, oh, wow, okay, great. Yeah,

Unknown:

absolutely. And, and is definitely, you know, makes it an easy decision come March every year for her to go again, because she needs that experience. And, you know, needs to be a part of that. And I'm glad that I can hang here and just do my small parts, take care of the kids so that she has an opportunity to do that, hopefully, without worrying about what's happening back here. Because when you're there, you need to focus on what you're doing and taking care of the people. And then it is infectious, I had an opportunity to go to Brazil for a different mission opportunity. We were hoping to be back over the summer, but that all got sort of blown up with COVID. But, you know, that's one of those things that if you're around people that get involved in mission work, it's something that is an infectious kind of thing. And you want an opportunity to do that as well, just so you can see different parts of the world and hopefully help some people are there.

Shannon Earley:

Yeah, definitely. You guys, that hundred percent. I think also, it's so nice to see, to have a public face of such a healthy, strong, loving family. You know, I think it's really important for men and women, to see how you can support each other in different ways that maybe aren't traditional, like you were saying, but also in ways that completely, you know, play on your strengths. And I think that is so important. And you know, to have that public, you know, the public face or whatever. Also having God is such a central part of your life. Anyways, that's just a kudos. I don't even have a question. Following that statement. I'm just kudos in you. Okay, so I'm going to ask you another question. Okay. So, Ashley, what is something that is secret but special about Adam, that you wish other people would know about him that he's doesn't talk about? Oh, yeah. Like, maybe he's too humble to talk about it. Or maybe he doesn't think it's that big of a deal. And I'm gonna ask you the same thing, Adam. Good. I'm gonna grab that. Can I grab that iron chair? Is that cool? Okay, I was like, maybe they're decor too decorative. Yeah. They're

Unknown:

just kind of, you know, drilled into the ground. Yeah. I would say, Well, I don't know the secret because I think most people can appreciate it. Adam is a he Adam is a truly humble man. Like,

Shannon Earley:

truly humble.

Unknown:

That sometimes I'm like, Yeah, like, just shout it out.

Shannon Earley:

Right. But he's,

Unknown:

he's a humble man who he really sees everybody's side of things, which is he has amazing perspective. But he has an amazing way of verbalizing his thoughts in a well thought out manner. To not offend anyone. Yeah, point across super diplomatic. He's so diplomatic. Um, yeah, he would I think you should go into politics. Yeah. At the same time, right. Right. Um, but like he can relate to people in really understand, try to understand their experience before forming an opinion and assault. And one of his ways of just bringing you down to earth when I lose perspective of everything, see, can do that. But I think, I don't know people ever see that, that he is very thoughtful, and humble and tries to maintain perspective and

Shannon Earley:

collects his thoughts before speaking,

Unknown:

and does it in a brilliant way.

Shannon Earley:

Right. And I think sometimes, um, you know, I have a husband's very similar, and I think that sometimes other people, they can kind of get lost in the sauce, because you know, Ashley and I are very vivacious and loud. And we're like, the front man of the family. You know what I mean? Like, Hey, what's up everybody? And I think that our husbands, you know, they're not going to be like, look at me, that's just, you all don't want that attention. Firstly. And so I think that sometimes there are special talents. Yeah, because they're quiet and reserved about it, but also steadfast. And that's thing too. I think Evan knows his strengths. He's just not gonna share it. And I think that you have a similar Yeah, you know, that you do these things? Well, but you're not like look, we're not doing well. Anyways, yeah, they can get a little I don't know. not lost. I don't know how to explain it. But just they might be you know, because we're so out there, right.

Unknown:

Yeah, there's a foundation.

Shannon Earley:

Yeah, exactly. That I can dance on stage. So Adam, same question. What Something secret that maybe a lot of people don't know about Ashley that is special and you wish other people knew about it

Unknown:

much. Yeah, I don't know if this is necessarily a secret, but maybe just sort of the volume as it is something that people don't really understand. Because Ashley is one of those people that is just naturally caring and provides, you know, a lot of support. And so people naturally reach out to her. You know, while on a one to one basis, you might realize you have that relationship to Ashley, like, I wish folks could see her phone sometimes because she's got that relationship with so many people. And she handles it extremely well. You know, she's, she's a great sounding board and support system for pretty much everybody that's part of our circle, in some way. And it's, I think it's kind of remarkable that she takes on that from so many people. But, you know, like I said, it's not a secret people know that, which is why they reach out to her if they're unsure about something, or if they need support, or if they need reinforcement, but you're

Shannon Earley:

right, she's not gonna say, hey, you're the 13th text I've just received this hour. She's not gonna make people feel like she's not gonna hurry their time or make them feel less than Yeah, you do have a really big gift with that. I don't know. And every time you're like, everybody comment on this photo, then you comment back to everyone. I'm like, Ashley, like, it causes me anxiety. I could not. I'm trying to grow my business. I'm just like, Please someone else? Yeah, Jesus, take the wheel. Take the social Jesus. Yeah, I

Unknown:

can't. Maybe we're all human, you know, and I get overwhelmed and Adam news when I get overwhelmed, but for me, it's taking a step. And learning like that it's okay to put your phone down. And I do do that. But I always make sure that I will respond. If I feel everyone's I can't help anybody. So what do I do? And I'm a robot, and just that's what I'm working on, to find that balance and trying to constantly figure out what is the best for everybody, because I feel like my role on earth is to help people like that, in whatever capacity doesn't

Shannon Earley:

have to be, you know, groundbreaking. But

Unknown:

um, I think all of our role, I think we were put here by God to help support his in all of his children in whatever small or major way that we can. And so, you know, it's hard because you beat yourself up when I need to take time to put my phone down and take a break, because I'm like, Well, what if someone needs some some advice someone needs? Like, yeah, this would have someone Yes, you know, whatever. But then they also realize when you reach your point, that you have to do that. And it's okay. Because I'll show up again, stronger than Yeah, before. So that's something I'm just practicing. Yeah, that will probably always be

Shannon Earley:

something you have to set in practice. Yes, I'm coming. I'm popping in again. I'm so sorry. What story I actually pledge. Guys listen. So when they were talking about actually taking time for people, and that she's personable and truly cares, and she believes people are children of God. Back in the day, Ashley and I actually met in the same mops group mops find desire, I'm actually at the time was a nurse practitioner, right. And she would come in sometimes we'd be like, I got to get to my patients later. So I have to leave 30 minute, whatever. Always looking fly in her little row. And she saw me stressing, and I was getting sicker and sicker. I know that's a foundation on. Anyways, when you have medical issues, chronic medical issues, or whatever, and a lot of doctors are stumped, it can be very frustrating because you feel like you don't have their real time to give you real advice. They might be looking at just one thing at a time. And so actually, what was wrong with it one day, and I just shared with her, like, every symptom that she was like, Ah, this doesn't sound right, you need to call I don't if you want me to call endocrinologist kidney for whatever it was, she's like, this is wrong, get these in these in these in these tests. And this was in 2016. And because of her, they were able to find out that my left kidney had died and was pounds heavier than my right kidneys. And I'm just really thankful because it was making me very, very sick. And I think it was something nobody would have thought was happening because I was you know, 30 so that was a weird thing. But, um, Ashley will be there for you is my point. She came to a mops meeting to relax, and I attacked her with I feel sick. And then she said, You know what?

Unknown:

I'll watch your baby. Will

Shannon Earley:

you have a cigarette outside? At the time I smoked anyway. Um, so I like to hold babies. Okay, so you guys she's a meal where the babies even made a rule in Haiti. Yeah. Steal the baby. Yeah. Well, it was always a competition between Ashley and I, who's gonna get the baby first? Because we were like, because our husband said no mo no Mo. Actually, when you went to Haiti last time when you were pregnant with Foster, I'm sorry, the Zika virus was going on, dude. So know that. Okay, you know, it's like it's got to still be there. Right. So that was before

Unknown:

Nico was I mean, I'm sure it was around, but it was before it was a thing because I definitely would have not gone with Zika. Um, but yeah, I had to bring my own food, which is fine. Like, it was a lot process. Yeah, like, it's what I like. Anyway, that's a it's great, like, lots of cans for us to be checked the fetus at the moment. And it worked out really well. But then it was the next year that Zika came. But I didn't go because I was nursing. Yeah, that was your sketch. And then yeah, and then this past year, we went March. No. Yes. Yes. The statue. It's March because Yeah. Um, and that was the week before everything shipped out. And COVID we were in at watching all the COVID like coming over to the States. And we were actually super worried that we were not going to be allowed to come back and girl you were on that cusp of not ever recall an atom? You know? I'm gonna be fine. If I could hear it for however long and he was like, I'm not. Alright, we'll do our best to get out.

Shannon Earley:

Well, there goes my plans. Yeah. Dude, I love Okay, so Hi. If you want to jump in, dude, feel free. Come on in.

Unknown:

He's our oldest

Shannon Earley:

Jackson is the oldest come and go right in between mom and dad. Dude. All right, jack attack.

Unknown:

I think I'm gonna pick up a mop.

Shannon Earley:

That's okay. We're gonna we're gonna close out real quick. Okay, so Jackson, your mom and dad. We were talking about the different qualities they have. Have you watched movies? I'm sure. Okay, if your mom and dad were a movie, we're in a movie. What type of movie would it be? Like? Like, comedy romantic comedy, drama, horror action. superhero. What would they be? Okay, who would be the actor to play your dad? That's okay. Woody. Can you think of any movies of us? Or a character you like in a movie that reminds you of your dad? Would you say your dad's more like? Carl or like Shane? Daryl or like, what's the share? Same like Rick Rick Grimes. What's your Who's your mom? Like? Really? Yeah, she yeah,

Unknown:

that's

Shannon Earley:

pretty cool. Dude, that's pretty cool. It's just I don't know. Did I stopped? Like, several seasons.

Unknown:

So we're we restarted the boys because yes, we our boys watch horror movies with us. So don't judge but yeah, love it. Yeah. And we love zombie movies and shows. So we started rewatching and walking down with them. And Jackson was Darrell for Halloween this year. I love Darrell.

Shannon Earley:

I'm Ashley. What qualities of yours Do you think Jackson has?

Unknown:

And Jackson is? She's on point with. I mean, that's not tooting my horn. Yeah, it's, it's, uh, he shows up and does everything to the best of his ability. Without a question, and I love it. He's so dependable. Like, come on. I don't have to just follow up to make sure that he did this or he did that. Like he's already done it. Ah, like, all right.

Shannon Earley:

I love that you add on what do you think Jackson has that's like you,

Unknown:

uh, Jackson's very stoic. and dependable. She was talking about the fact that I you know, I want to sound like I'm tooting my own horn here, but I'm like a relatively modest sort of quiet person. And Jackson, I think is naturally that was very thoughtful. And it's sort of like a like a duck swimming. Okay, it's just sort of gliding across the top but you know, inside it's like those feet paddling like crazy and so he's very thoughtful but he doesn't express a lot of emotion or or wear a lot of emotion on his sleeve. But like he said, he's he's certainly very dependable, very organized. He's got that down from her very intelligent got that from her as well.

Shannon Earley:

Oh, see the humble, humble thing? Well, he makes a sweet juice shoe. Oh, I love that. I love it. Alright guys, so we are going to get ready to pop off to do another interview with sweet baby Ashley. Um, but Adam, you're kind of in the hot seat real quick. I have to do it. It's annoying and it's just everybody out. Okay. You have to rapid fire answer and Jackson can help you out. If you want. You have to pick number one through 200. And you the answer can be long. But you have to say it quickly like Okay, first thought kind of thing. All right, first one, ticket number one. Your wife was like, ah, like stressing and sweating. Everybody does. Number Guess what? No one has picked that yet. Oh, this is like a plug for what store? Do you shop at the most

Unknown:

happened to be wearing a blue shirt there. This is not a shirt. Ah,

Shannon Earley:

that's target. Yeah. Do you have any Lula on today? Do I gotta live ci it says I'm the reason we're late.

Unknown:

Sara duster cardigan and we have the most amazing jeans in the world.

Shannon Earley:

Oh, that is it? Your mom is her. Okay, next one. Next question.

Unknown:

Oh, gosh, our order?

Shannon Earley:
